Position Management
While I have touched on some of these principles in my technical and fundamental approach, I believe that position management deserves a dedicated section. A well-planned trade entry is just the beginning—how a position is managed throughout its lifecycle plays a major role in trading success. I focus on dynamic position management, allowing trades to develop while maintaining control over risk, exposure, and profit-taking strategies.
Scaling In & Out of Positions
- I´m in favor of adapt my entry size and timing based on the strength of my signal. In high-confidence trades, I may enter fully, while in uncertain conditions, I use scaled entries to improve cost basis. Example of scaling in:
- Open 50 % of total position at initial breakout (confirmed by MACD & volume spike)
- Add 30 % more if price retraces to EMA but holds trend structure
- Add final 20 % when price clears a key resistance zone on strong volume
- I scale out of positions when the price approaches key levels, locking in partial profits while leaving room for further trend development. Fixed profit targets are usually set based on backtesting, while a portion of the position is closed dynamically, for example, using ATR-based adjustments.
Position Exposure & Diversification
- Continuously tracking live trade exposure is essential to ensure that multiple open positions remain balanced, even across correlated assets.
- I implement hedging techniques based on entry conditions to protect against adverse market moves while keeping core strategies intact. I prefer to hedge positions by considering:
Different time horizons – Managing short-term execution within a broader market context.
Different instruments – Cross-hedging correlated assets where applicable.
Volume-based adjustments – Ensuring risk balance across the entire strategy framework. - I use my fundamental view and multi-timeframe analysis to manage positions based on broader market structure while executing trades on shorter timeframes.
By combining scaling techniques, dynamic stop management and risk-adjusted exposure, I ensure that every trade is managed efficiently and systematically, improving long-term consistency and profitability.
